Meet Bobbi-Jo Starr (Kisikaw Iskwew – Daylight Woman) An Indigenous singer-songwriter from Peerless Trout First Nation (Treaty 8 Territory, Northern Alberta) Bobbi-Jo Starr incorporates indigenous teachings and storytelling into contemporary music about water, healing and recovery.
After releasing her debut single, “The Sun is on the Rise” in June 2024, Bobbi-Jo and is now preparing to record and release her debut Album this summer. In recent months, Bobbi-Jo Starr was selected for funding to record her Album by Alberta Foundation for the Arts – Indigenous Arts Grant.
“This album has music from a few different genre’s, featuring Indigenous inspired blues, contemporary roots rock and emotional powerhouse ballads. My lyrics hold a lot of power, and they are meant to inspire and encourage others to choose sobriety and build a strong relationship with water by lending their voices in advocacy and protection. This album reflects a lot of who I am, as Kisikaw Iskwew, and is my personal contribution to the Truth and Reconciliation movement.”
Last summer, Starr attended the TD Musician Artist in Residence Program at Grant MacEwan University and also performed at KDAYS Kiyanaw Mainstage.
