Double Bill of Strong Folk from Nova Scotia and Manitoba
An east coast gem
Dave Gunning is best defined as a master craftsman. Over the course of 23 years, 12 albums, 8 East Coast Music Awards, 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards, plus a 2012 Juno Award nomination, the Nova Scotian folk singer/songwriter has diligently sharpened his skills, developing into a poetic storyteller and emotionally convincing singer.
Dave has the magnetic gift of captivating audiences by painting pictures through his heartfelt stories and compelling songwriting, humorous lyrics and stunning musical arrangements. Blending sensitive folk and innovative arrangements to his original songs, he has built a solid fan base across Canada and abroad.
Roots duo The Small Glories
are Cara Luft & JD Edwards, a musical tour-de-force partnership grown on the Canadian Prairies. They duplicate and reinforce each others’ many strengths yet allow their distinct personalities to shine through. With a stage banter striking a balance between slapstick and sermon, these veteran singer-songwriters have a way of making time disappear, rooms shrink, and audiences feel as they are right there on stage with the band. A Small Glories concert is a welcoming event in terms of subject, folk-pop melody and instrumentation — delivered with soaring, interwoven vocals and various combinations of stomping clawhammer banjo, guitar and harmonica.
On record, The Small Glories take the musical synergy honed from hundreds of shows together, and expand it into a new soundscape amplified by pounding drums and other textural embellishments. Their highly anticipated sophomore album “Assiniboine & the Red” comes out June 28 2019.
